About me...

Hallo! My name is Alessandro Tasora.

I was born in 1971 in Milan, Italy, and I currently live in Parma. I'm a mechanical engineer (specialized in robotics / theoretical mechanics / simulation). I worked as a researcher at the Politecnico di Milano, and now I am an Assistant Professor at the Parma University, in the Industrial Engineering Department.

In the meanwhile I'm working as a freelance in the 3d industry: I wrote more than one hundred articles about computergraphics, on more than 6 magazines, and I'm also developing software for 3D applications, such as Chrono::Engine and Revolution4D .

I work a lot with computer technology, and I know many computer programming languages (RPL, FORTH, C, C++, Pascal, Basic, ROOPS, LaTeX, Javascript, etc). Until now I wrote about 400'000 lines of C++ code, expecially for the developement of my 3D simulation software Chrono::R3D. I have also a site where I publish my software tools and animations: Deltaknowledge.

My favourite hobby, 3D computergraphics, has become also my freelance job. In 15 years of 3d experience, I attended to international computergraphic contests, I produced cover illustrations for magazines, animations for TV commercials, CD-Roms and games. This is funny because few persons are so lucky to have an hobby which is also a source of cash..

Playing guitar is my other favourite hobby. As I share lot of musical tastes, I play two kind of guitars. For blues/rock/Hard'n metal I play an old hand-made jazz electrical guitar, or the great Gibson SG 'solid-body' electrical guitar (just like the one of the picture in this page). On the other side I like also classical music, so I play a classical guitar, to fingerpick the typical spanish songs by Tarrega, Albeniz, etc. Also, with classic guitar I play lot of Bossa Nova songs (a jazz-like type of brasilian music which was very popular in the sixties: Jobim, Stan Getz, etc..).

My third hobby is photography, I especially like portraits of people (that's why all my friends ask for me to make their photo-album when they get married) I also like drawing with china-ink or with pencils, but I'm afraid to have so few spare time for painting: my average production is just 1,6 drawings per year.
Of course, during the summer I have other jobs: swimming, going by bike, etc...

Here's a small list of things I like: music (expecially blues, rock, hard rock, jazz, bossa nova), Realsoft3D (the best raytracing software!), the Enlightement (thoughts of Voltaire, D'Alambert, Laplace,..) and philosophers of 18th and 19th century in general, the Renaissance (the age of Leonardo, Michelangelo..), Venice and Florence (two awesome cities!), the Amiga community (Amiga: the first computer with true multitasking), the English romantic poetry (P.B.Shelley, Keats, Byron), piano music from 19th century (Chopin, Liszt), Bobbio (the little town where my family originated), the poetry and the thoughts of G.Leopardi, Alfa Romeo cars (expecially the old ones..), Gibson guitars (like mine!), chinese martial arts (the 'true' kung fu, not the one of the movies), chinese food (the restaurant near my home: it's very funny...), Walt Disney (especially the early movies), greek food (I never get tired of souflaki!), greek islands & greek people (well, I visited 16 greek islands!), reading books, swimming, visiting european cities (Vienna, Paris, Praha, ...)

In this web site you can read more about me: follow the links at the left of this frame, and you will know my "curriculum vitae" (the resume), my pictures (along with photos of my friends), my artwork (you will see some of my 3D pictures), and other stuff...
